Grocery Shopping at Safeway
This month, the Albertsons Safeway family of stores is hosting a national "Hunger Is" campaign.

The program helps to raise awareness and funds that will help hungry children and their families through local food banks.

This month, I'm supporting the Hunger Is campaign by shopping at my local Safeway and making a purchase of a participating product.

Rare Golden Dragon Yellow Tea - Luxurious & Timeless

This morning I got a chance to brew a batch of Golden Dragon Yellow Tea I recently bought from Teavana.

It's supposed to be one of the rarest teas in the world and it is their Limited Edition Yellow Tea.  At $29.98 for 2 oz., it's one of Teavana's most expensive teas.  Naturally, this peaked my interest.  I wanted to know what one of their most expensive teas tasted like.

Upon opening the bag, I noticed a faint, fragrantly grassy smell.  The tea leaves had yellowish undertones, that looked almost golden.  The look and scent were very unique (in a beautiful way).

I brewed the tea at the recommended 175F degrees for 2-3 minutes and noticed immediately the water beginning to turn a yellow amber color.  Before letting it come to a full brew, I poured myself a small cup. I always like to do this to test the flavors as they develop, as tea always seems to have an evolving taste.

Hot Pot Equipment - What I use at HOME.

2/7/2015

Looking to buy new hot pot equipment?  If you love cooking Asian hot pot at home, you'll need a portable tabletop burner.  Either a butane gas burner or an electric skillet.  I've used both and my preference is the electric skillet. The ones I use at home are the Zojirushi brand.  I've got an older model of this one and the newer model Gourmet d'Expert Electric Skillet (EP-PBC10).  Yes, I have two! Comes in handy when you have a big group of mouths to feed.  ; )

The reason why I prefer the electric skillet over the gas burner is because of the butane cans.  Each butane can usually lasts me around an hour or so (depending on how high you've used the flame) and that's not enough time to eat a whole meal (hey, I eat slow).  This means I need to change cans mid-eating.  Even though it only takes a few minutes, I'd prefer not to.
