Mother's Day is just around the corner (Sunday, May 10th) and I'm more of the practical gift giver type. I like to give gifts that people can use and will make their lives easier. A happy MOM = a happy me. So here are my Top 5 Kitchen Gift recommendations for MOM, most under $100 and one free. : )
For the Matcha Latte ♥ (& Starbucks) Lover
For the Matcha Latte ♥ (& Starbucks) Lover

1. Nespresso Aeroccino Plus Milk Frother ($77.81 on Amazon)
Great for making fast and foamy Matcha Lattes. I have this same amazing frother and make my lattes by first adding cold milk (soy or regular dairy), then add 1-2 scoops of matcha powder on top. With the press of a button, the Aeroccino froths together the milk and matcha to make a nice cup of HOT or COLD Matcha Latte. Then I pour into a cup and add my choice of sweetener + a tiny bit of hot water to lighten up the drink.
I recommend gifting this with a small can or bag of Premium Organic Ceremonial Grade Matcha powder so MOM can get started making lattes right away.

For MOM's Inner Gourmet Chef
2. French Olive-Wood Handmade Salt Keeper by Berard ($44.87 on Amazon, or $49.95 at Williams-Sonoma) For the MOM who loves to cook. A beautiful handmade olive-wood salt keeper to hold your salt. Great for putting on the counter near the stove when you need a quick pinch of salt. If you watch my videos, you'll see that I use this one all the time. For an up-close review check out my December Kitchen Favorites video. |

I Recommend gifting this with a box of Maldon Sea Salt Flakes, which makes a nice finishing salt for veggie stir frys, salads, tofu, green onion pancakes and more.
Side Note: If you've never used Maldon Sea Salt flakes before, they're amazing! Not only do they have a nice taste, but l love breaking up and hearing the crunch of the crystals when crushing them between my fingers. If you prefer not to use sea salt, you can also fill this up with kosher salt. |
Because MOM deserves to feel Beautiful ♥
3. Chantecaille Pure Rosewater Mist ($64.00 from Nordstrom) Okay, so this isn't a kitchen item...but it's become my recent favorite and Grandma is getting one of these for Mother's Day from me too. A beautiful rose water spritz for MOMs. Great to use as a refreshing, soothing spray on the face before or after cooking (because cooking is hard work!) I like to use mine in the evenings too or whenever I feel like a refreshing mist of lightly scented roses. Besides, nothing says 'I love you mom' like roses. ♥ |

A personal blender for healthy smoothies & drinks
4. Vitamix S30 Personal Blender ($398.95 on Amazon)
- or -
Nutribullet High-Speed Blender ($89.99 on Amazon)
If MOM doesn't have a nice blender already, now's the perfect time to gift her one. Blenders are great for making healthy green and fruit smoothies, plus I have a few drink recipes that require a blender to make.

While there are lots of blenders out on the market (I've owned a Blendtec, Vitamix, and Nutribullet), in my opinion, the Vitamix and Nutribullets work the best for drinks and crushing ice. The Nutribullet is the less expensive option (less than $100) and a very good blender. I like the Vitamix because it crushes ice just a tad bit better than the Nutribullet, and I find it more powerful when cutting through frozen pineapple and fruits.

One thing to keep in mind: I got my Grandma the Nutribullet last year and she likes it, but needs help to open and close the blending jar. It's a screwtop lid that can be hard to open if you don't have a ton of wrist strength. The Vitamix has a screwtop bottom, but I find that it's much easier to open.
The Edible Gift, Sweet & Handmade with Love
5. Taiwanese Pineapple Cakes (Tarts) (FREE, baked by you)
I always enjoy handmade gifts and that includes the edible ones too! MOM would love to have a freshly baked batch of homemade Taiwanese Pineapple Cakes. Put them in a stylish reusable storage container for an added bonus and maybe a nice 'Thank you for being my Mom' card.

Okay - so maybe these aren't free, but the ingredients should all be less than $10 and you'll likely have most ingredients at home already. You can also make it a Mother's Day baking date. Get all the ingredients and spend the afternoon with mom baking these treats and bonding over a cup of tea. As the saying goes, the best things in life are FREE.
