Taiwanese Tea Oil Noodles | made with Tea Seed Oil
A Taiwanese homestyle dish made with a uniquely flavored Tea Seed Oil (苦茶油). This special oil is slightly bitter sweet, and combined with a bit of sesame oil and light soy sauce, makes for a surprisingly flavorful combination.
Often times served for breakfast (yes, I know . . . it sounds a bit weird to eat noodles for breakfast, huh?) these thin noodles cook fairly quickly too, which also makes for a great snack. I do recommend sticking with the thin noodles though, as the texture pairs well in this dish.
Tip: Tea Seed Oil (sometimes known as Bitter Tea Seed Oil) can be hard to find. Check your local Asian grocer or you can purchase it on Amazon with free shipping and in a economical pack of 3 here. This oil has a high smoke point so it can also be used for stir frys too.
Substitutions: If you cannot find Tea Seed Oil, you could substitute it with an Olive Oil. While the taste won't be the same, it will still be very nice.
